Professional Editing Services

About Us

Recently launched, Lusiba is a company that offers a cocktail of language services, including editing, proofreading and transcribing. Lusiba’s Director - Namhla Nyangintsimbi - is a language practitioner, a member of the South African Translators’ Institute (SATI) and is, therefore, skilled to provide you with the above-mentioned services. Because the primary function of communication is to relay information, a mutual understanding between the two parties involved is vital.

If the information is misinterpreted by the receiver, it may cause a breakdown or failure in communication and, thus, affect the actions that follow. For example, in an academic document or business report, the way in which information is relayed will determine the outcome. Lusiba strives to help her clients convey the information in their documents as clearly and effectively as possible in order to get the desired results. This is achieved through thorough editing and proofreading as well as ensuring that every word in a recording has been transcribed. We promise to work closely with our clients in order to provide them with a personalised experience.

Services

Although editing and proofreading are often used interchangeably, they are two different activities.
The two terms are discussed below

Editing

Editing refers to improving a text so that the message is communicated in a clearer way. It involves knowing what the writer is trying to communicate, making sure that the information in a document is presented logically and making sure that the language and style of the document are consistent. Thus, editing goes beyond checking the language and grammar of a document. An edited document could end up looking very different to the original document if the original document was poorly written.

Proofreading

Proofreading means checking a typeset version of a document against the original manuscript to make sure that the typeset version contains everything in good order. This is usually done after editing has taken place and towards the end of the publishing process. Synonyms for proofreading include light editing, language checking and reviewing.

Transcribing

Transcribing simply means putting speech into written form.
